Being Nazriya Nazim

BEING NAZRIYA NAZIM

By Abhishek Krishnan

Tamil cinema has been a large hall of fame that has witnessed the entry and exit of numerous heroines ever since the industry evolved. Some actresses have managed to hit the summit of their career, while some simply did not turn out to be successful.

Well, the latest candidate to step in and wave at us standing by the threshold of the enormous hall of glamour is Nazriya Nazim. The actress featured herself in front of the camera as an anchor in television shows aired in Dubai, which is where she did her schooling. She was then called upon to host a show in a popular Malayalam television channel.

Her first appearance in the silver screen was as a child artist in a Malayalam movie titled Palunku that starred the National Award winning actor Mammootty.

She later appeared in a Malayalam video song, ‘Nenjodu Cherthu’ in the album ‘Yuvvh’ which was distributed by Sony Music India and was a towering hit. The video has over two million views on YouTube and still lingers under the lips of many, forcing them to hum the tune every now and then.

The video was directed by Alphonse Putharen, the man who helmed Neram. The song starts off with Nazriya waking up from sleep and Alphonse was keen on capturing the adorable nuances of Nazriya, thereby waking her up into what one would call a dream career.

She also acted in a couple of Malayalam movies Oru Naal Varum and Maad Dad under the guidance of popular mega stars such as Mohanlal, Srinivasan and Lal.

Director Anees was quick to notice the potential of the young actress and realized that her looks were as sharp as a diamond that could pierce through the hearts of many youngsters, goading him to cast her in his debut Tamil film, Thirumanam Ennum Nikkah. The sheer talent and cuteness quotient of the actress was soon whispered through the ears of the people in the film fraternity and ‘BAM’; she got roped into two other films, Naiyaandi and Raja Rani opposite the likes of Dhanush and Arya.

Meanwhile director Alphonse Putharen had Neram ready on paper and roped Nazriya in to play the female lead. Interestingly, Nivin Pauly the lead actor of Neram was the one who played the lead in Yuvvh too. Alphonse was keen on sticking to the same pair in his film considering the tranquilizing chemistry they had in the album.

The song ‘Kadhal En Ulle Vandha Neram’ was a pretty decent composition. However, the baffling expressions of the pretty young lady simply burglarized the hearts of the dazzled spectators taking the song to a different level altogether.

Nazriya was seen humming the lines of Yuvvh in a recent interview which categorically interprets that she has got the forte to be a singer too.  A rare video of Nazriya crooning a Malayalam song when she was a little kid is another substantiation that the actress can sing fairly well.

With just one released movie in Tamil, Nazriya already has covered a huge chunk of fans who have fallen head over heels in craze for her. Her official facebook fans page has over a million likes and has surged past the number of likes in the official pages of even the legendary stars Mohanlal and Mammootty.

When most other actresses had to slog over a good number of movies to gain a strong fan base, the young lady from Mallu-land has made it with ease by just doing what she is good at.
