A huge hello to all the readers and viewers of this column…with the Divine blessing of Goddess Saraswathi, let me start this week’s ‘rekhs underscore’ with a song from a film that the entire world is waiting to watch with bated breath!

You guessed it right…Kochadaiiyaan of course.

From his very first song Balu-ji (SPB) has got me totally mesmerized with his golden voice. I was thrilled to bits when I heard the 1^st song to be released from this film will be his voice ringing in everyone’s heads. I am 100% certain zillion others would have echoed my thoughts too.

Lyrics of this song penned by Vairamuthu-ji are ‘chicken soup to the creative soul’ and the reason I wanted to sub this is simple. I wanted the world to enjoy the penmanship of this awe-inspiring lyricist who has won the national award in 1986, 1993, 1995, 2000, 2003 and 2011!

I’m now reminded of the popular Tamil saying, translated as, ‘Along with the flower, the string is fragrant too’ His latest national award in 2011 as best lyricist for TMPK (Then maerku paruva kaatru) was subtitled by yours truly! Director Seenu Ramasamy was very insistent I get the right meaning across to the jury with the lyrical content intact. The song being an ode to motherhood, he was positive of a national award for the lyricist and he was bang on!

I’d like to dedicate this song with all humility to the 4 kings of our film industry, Shri ARR who makes us hum at the oddest of times all the songs he scores, Rajini-ji whose mere presence is enough to make the deepest impact ever, Balu-ji who can wake up even the dead with his dulcet voice and of course Vairamuthu-ji who enlivens this song and infuses (extra) fire to course through our veins and nerves.
