It
is hardly any news when stars shave
their heads for movies, the phenomenon
that is made popular by Shankar with
his movie Gentleman. However, as a
rather unusual trend, the two kingpins
of Tamil cinema Rajini and Kamal have
tonsured their heads for their movies
at the same time.
Though the news related to their
shaven
look is old, what makes the news stand out is
that this is a rare occurrence, which has happened
never before, in Tamil cinema. The fans of the
superstars have already had a chance of catching
a glimpse of their icon’s shaven look through
the images, which leaked earlier in the media.
They
have shed their mane for the films that
they are working currently. As far as Rajnikanth
is concerned, the stories of his films may
vary over a period of time but by and large
his looks have remained within a specified
framework. He has, never in the history
of his film career, gone on a makeover that
required him to shed his mane for a film.
But now, heeding to director Shankar’s
request, he has clean-shaven his head for
Sivaji the stills of which have been flashing
all over the media.
On the other hand, Kamal Hassan would go
to any length to totally transform his look
for a film. He has tonsured his head for
Dasavatharam and was in the US for his shoots
until recently. However, he did not make
any effort to hide his look and appeared
with his French beard and tonsured head
during the audio launch of Periyar recently.
The
two ‘off image’ appearances of these
stars only go on to reiterate the commitment and
sincerity that they demonstrate towards their
work. These two icons seem to exude thorough professionalism
from which the young actors of today need to learn
a lesson or two.
