In spite of taking Draconian measures, the menace
of video piracy still continues. Cheran has
been one of the serious activists campaigning
against video piracy. Following a tip off, the
director-actor accompanied by his assistant
went to Burma Bazaar, where CDs of the latest
Tamil releases are said to be available. The
suspicion proved right. Cheran’s assistant
who posed as a ‘customer’, came
back with a copy of Cheran’s film ‘Thavamai
Thavamirindhu’. Cheran then personally
went to the shop and accosted the shop owner,
Adul Azeez. A verbal duel ensued and it is alleged
Adul Azeez roughed up Cheran.
