K Balachander, the legend who created Tamil cinema’s two most enduring heroes, Rajini and Kamal, is a worried man these days. Having completed Poi to his satisfaction, the grand old craftsman of Tamil stage and cinema has been involved in a number of parleys and is using his clout constructively, helping the industry shape itself for future challenges. He is also scripting his next film, but probably neither Rajini nor Kamal would be part of it. He is reported to have said that he had expected Rajini and Kamal to create a new wave and although both showed initial promise in that direction, they have grown too big for him now. Hence, he is looking for a new hero. Anyone interested?
