Q: What are the changes do you feel
in the industry from the time you came in?
Prakashraj:
Not much. Cinema has remained a piggyback rider
on the stars’ pulling power. As much as
we have had good directors, the sad part is
they are a small minority. When they arrive,
they have high vision but compromise on their
convictions under commercial pressures. There
is no systematic or concerted effort to improve
the quality of the films. Directors are too
busy protecting their own turf. This is true
not just in Tamil, but in Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam…..
Q: Your association with Ram Gopal Varma…
Prakashraj: I am so proud to
bring him to Tamil. It will be a Tamil film to
be directed by Mani(Rathnam)’s assistant
Milind.
Q:
There was also talk of a new film with Vijay.
Prakashraj: It was very kind
of him to have readily accepted. Prabudeva would
be the director. It will be an offering by friends.
We are looking out for good scripts.
Q:
Your recent meeting with Muthulakshmi(brigand
Veerappan’s wife) raised a few eyebrows.
Prakashraj: Well, I am not denying
it. She met me and asked whether I could make
a film on her husband’s life and play his
character. I expressed my reservations. I have
no personal affinity or animosity against her.
