One of the pioneers of background music in Bollywood, O.P. Nayyar passed away yesterday in Thane. Creator of the famous hits of all times such as ‘Mera Naam Chin Chin Choo’, ‘Ankhon Hi Ankhon Main, and ‘Pukarta Chala Hoon Main’, Nayyar’s romantic numbers mesmerized the fans and critics alike.

O P Nayyar

Born in January 26, 1926 in Lahore, Nayyar’s career commenced with Kaneez in 1949. He went on to reign Hindi cinema with his unique numbers until he bid goodbye to the music scene in the 1970s. Considered to be responsible for elevating the careers of playback singers like Asha Bhonsle, Rafi, and Geeta Dutt, Nayyar, for reasons unknown, never worked with Lata Mangeshkar. Nayyar’s music is influenced with Piano, Saxophone, and unique rhythms.

Nayyar was last seen in the TV show Sa Re Ga Ma. Condolences from Bollywood and prominent leaders are pouring in for Nayyar’s family.
