World’s first water police introduced in Cape Town.

South Africa’s Cape Town city authorities have employed over 60 officers, known as ‘water squad’, to enforce a recent series of measures to restrict the use of water. The city announced a host of measures known locally as “level 6B” as it is reeling under severe water scarcity without significant rainfall for three years. The drought-hit city has its six dams running dangerously low. The world's first water police, for all practical purposes, will see that the municipal supply is not used against the “level 6B” measures.
