UNCERTAINTY FOR 1000S OF PEOPLE WHO WORKED IN STERLITE

After the harsh turn of events, the Tamil Nadu government ordered the permanent closure and sealing of the Sterlite Copper smelter in Thoothukudi.  During the protest on May 22, protesters attacked the company's housing colony located just behind the Tuticorin collectorate.

The company, which considered the safety of its employees, swiftly shifted the employees to various districts of Tamil Nadu. Attacks are reportedly happening on the employees even two weeks after the violence.

Though the closing-down of Sterlite has given satisfaction for people across Tamil Nadu, for the 1,100 direct employees and about 3,000 contract labourers, this is the beginning of a troubled phase in their lives.
