Sterlite to mull legal options on reopening Thootukudi plant.

Sterlite CEO P Ramnath was quoted as saying by the LiveMint that the firm would explore all legal options regarding reopening of the plant, which was ordered to shut down operations by the Tamil Nadu government on Monday.

He further alleged that locals were being misguided by NGOs.

Regarding the future course of action, Ramnath told LiveMint, "We have a court case on June 6 at the appellate tribunal in Chennai. Our consent to operate was not renewed by the government, so we approached the appellate tribunal. Based on the outcome, we will have to see how things turn out. We have 3,500 direct employees in Thoothukudi. Why should we abandon our own plant."
