UN human rights experts condemn Thoothukudi Shooting

United Nations human rights experts condemned the recent Thoothukudi shooting incident and have called for an investigation to ensure justice. Reportedly, UN has also asked Vedanta Resources to mitigate pollution and ensure conservation of environment in Thoothukudi.

The group of experts is led by Anita Ramasastry who reportedly said, “The government should uphold the rights to freedom of expression and assembly, as they are the cornerstone of democratic societies and a critical tool to identify and protect against business-related human rights abuses."

They also strongly condemned the use of ammunition against protestors who were marching for their basic human rights.
