Tamil Nadu: College student dies during disaster preparedness drill.

In a heartrending incident in Coimbatore, a 19-year-old college student died on Thursday after she accidentally hit her head on a sunshade of the first floor while jumping from the second floor. Logeshwari, a second year BBA student, was part of a disaster preparedness drill conducted on the campus of Kalaimagal College of Arts and Science in Narasipuram on Thursday.

A video of the incident, presumably taken by fellow students, shows the student is reluctant to jump while the trainer Arumugam is seen nudging her to jump from the second floor. Finally, when Arumugam allegedly pushed her hand a little, she jumped. However, Logeshwari accidentally hit on the sunshade of the first floor and crashed to the ground while a group of students were waiting on the ground to catch her with a net.

The student suffered injuries on the head and was rushed to a private hospital, which reportedly referred her for treatment to state-run Coimbatore Medical College hospital. She was then taken to CMCH where she died. Police have sent the body for postmortem and Logeshwari’s parents were informed.

The trainer Arumugam was detained and a case will be registered in connection with the matter, police said.
