Protest over murder of Dalit woman in Madurai

According to TOI reports, a 55-year-old Dalit woman was allegedly attacked by a non-Dalit couple in Madurai on Saturday night which led to her death. The victim’s family reportedly alleged that their non-Dalit caste neighbours would often quarrel with them as they couldn’t bare the caste differences. The victim’s relatives reportedly refused to take her body after post-mortem and staged a protest outside the collectorate demanding compensation and the immediate arrest of the accused. Reports say, traffic came to a standstill for more than 30 minutes in the collectorate road in Madurai on Monday morning. A case has been registered and police are in search of the accused.
