On the occasion of Behindwoods Gold Medals (Edition 7), retired DGP SR Jangid IPS honoured India's first transgender police Prithika Yashini with the 'Icon of Inspiration' award. Prithika Yashini hails from Salem, Tamil Nadu.

While she was pursuing her 9th grade, she understood herself to be the transgender which did not go well with her relatives. However, she completed her higher studies in computer applications.

During the course of her life, she began working as a warden in women's hostel in Chennai. Her application for the post of sub-inspector was denied by the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board (TNUSRB) since she did not belong to the specified two gender categories (Male/Female).

Later she challenged the decision of TNSURB at the Madras High Court. Followed by the court's order to conduct written test, Prithika successfully cleared the test and also physical endurance tests.

On 6 November 2015, the High Court of Madras issued directions to TNUSRB to appoint her as the sub-inspector of police. Further, the judgement also directed TNSURB to include a "third category" for transgenders apart from the usual "Male" and "Female" categories.

The Behindwoods Gold Medals feels equally honoured as the DGP Jangid (whose original story to nab "Bawaariya"  gang inspired to make the blockbuster film "Dheeram Adhigaram Ondru" directed by H Vinoth starring actor Karthi) to present the award to Prithika Yashini.
