Massive number of trees cut for Metro rail project

At least 2,500 trees have been cut by the CMRL along the elevated and underground lines of Chennai metro rail trail. Reportedly, 66,000 saplings were planted by the CMRL as a compensation for the trees that were cut down. But environmental experts told to Times of India that, cutting down of grown-up trees in such mass cannot be compensated even if so many saplings were planted.
