According to reports, one of the men who vandalised the statue of Periyar is a member of BJP, while the other is a CPI member. Reportedly, both of them were under the influence of alcohol. A statue of Periyar in Tirupattur was vandalised by the two of them on Tuesday and both of them were arrested. The incident comes after BJP leader H Raja’s controversial Facebook post (which was later deleted) about the demolition of Periyar statues in Tamil Nadu.
