Major strike in Anna Salai, police security tightened

Over 3,000 temporary nurses are reportedly staging a protest in Anna Salai, Chennai demanding permanent employment and an increase in salary which they are currently receiving on contractual basis. Police security has been tightened in the area. Reports say, the nurses have been staging a protest for the past few days inside Director of Medical and Rural Health Services (DMS) premises, Chennai. Notably, over 11,000 nurses qualified exams conducted Medical Recruitment Board in 2015 but they've been denied permanent employment for the past two years and are currently receiving only Rs 7,700 per month as salary.
