Madras HC orders to cut power supply to illegal hotels.

Hotels and restaurants are required to renew their licenses after submitting a no-objection certificate obtained from police after their assessment of vehicle parking facilities. The Madras High Court on Monday directed the Commissioner of Greater Chennai Corporation to cut the electricity supply to the hotels and restaurants which didn’t renew their licenses, reported The Hindu.

The HC also directed the corporation to grant licenses to new hotels and restaurants only if they conform to rules regarding the parking facility as by Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) under the second master plan, the report said.

Petitions filed in the court reportedly alleged that many hotels and restaurants in the city are operating without having adequate parking facilities. The CMDA’s master plan, drawn in 2013, reportedly requires every restaurant to provide one car parking space for every 50 square metres of the dining area and one two-wheeler parking space.
