CM Palaniswami announces water cannot be released from Mettur

Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami on Friday announced at the State Assembly that water will not be released on June 12 due to the low availability of water. According to the schedule, water from Mettur dam is to be opened on June 12 to provide water for farmers to cultivate 'kuruvai' paddy. However, the water levels are only around 39 feet.

Expressing thorough disappointment, the opposition party, DMK walked out of the Assembly. Following them, their allies Congress and IUML too left.

The CM instead offered a package of Rs 115 crore to help farmers cultivate their lands using other water resources. He assured that water will be released after the levels reach 90 feet.
