Chennai police detain over 3,000 persons after dozens of robberies on

Police detained about 3,027 persons during the vehicle check on Monday night after over a dozen incidents such as mobile phone and gold chain snatching were reported to have taken place on Sunday night. Reportedly, the detained include 1,125 history-sheeters. The operation was held based on the direction from City Commissioner AK Viswanathan.


Reports say that special teams, headed by inspectors, were formed from police stations to conduct the operation. Police also reportedly raided 740 hotels in the city to find if any of the offenders have been staying there.


According to reports, the police data said that 1,325 offenders and 1,125 history sheeters were arrested in the night-long operation. The arrested include 32 persons with non-bailable warrants against them, 15 absconding accused and 300 men on suspicion.
