Chennai: Formalin found in fish?.

The Hindu has reported that 11 out of 30 samples of fish purchased from the Chintadripet and Kasimedu fish markets on different days tested positive for formalin, a carcinogenic substance used to prolong the shelf life of fish, which is, in fact, harmful when consumed by humans.

Before Chennai, it was the turn of Andhra Pradesh and Kerala where formalin was found in fish samples.

Reacting to the findings, Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar promised actions, stating, "We will not hesitate to take strict action against those indulging in such acts."
