When it comes to limited-overs, Rohit Sharma has played ‘Savior’ for Team India under tough circumstances. But that isn’t the case with Test cricket. Despite getting a number of chances, the hit-man is yet to prove his ability in Test field. After a phenomenal world cup campaign, Rohit had grabbed a spot in India’s Test squad against West Indies but was not included in the playing eleven in the first match at Antigua. Instead, 25-year-old Hanuma Vihari was preferred over him.

Gautam Gambhir on Rohit Sharma\'s Test Cricket Future

With that said, former India batsman Gautam Gambir feels that both Hanuma Vihari and Ajinkya Rahane had made a magnificent strike in the first Test match and so Rohit Sharma will have to wait for an opportunity to showcase what he has.

“He (Rohit) has got to wait for his opportunity. There is Rahane, who has done well now and Vihari too. So he has to wait and when he gets that opportunity he needs to perform,” Gambhir was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

Rahane scored a timely 81 and 102 – his first hundred in two years – while Vihari made 32 and 93 as India romped to a 318-run victory.

“I am not at all surprised (with Rahane’s performance) but it was a much-needed performance, both from individual and team’s point of view. And when it comes in a winning cause, it doesn’t get better than that,” Gambhir was further quoted as saying.
