SC orders NHAI to open newly constructed expressway in Delhi on May 31

The Supreme Court gave orders to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to make sure that the newly constructed Eastern Peripheral Expressway in Delhi is open to the public by May 31.

The expressway was originally scheduled to be inaugurated on April 29 but was cancelled due to the PM's intense campaigning in Karnataka for the upcoming polls. A bench consisting of Justices Madan B Lokur and Deepak Gupta said, "We cannot be waiting indefinitely for the Prime Minister."

The newly constructed expressway will relieve Delhi of its constant heavy traffic woes. The bench made it clear that if the expressway is not inaugurated on or before May 31, it will be forcibly opened to the public on June 1.
