Major telecom company stopped from conducting Aadhaar-based verification of SIM  – Find out more here

According to reports, UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) has temporarily stopped Bharti Airtel and Airtel Payments Bank from conducting Aadhaar-based SIM verification of mobile customers using eKYC process as well as e-KYC of payments bank clients. UIDAI found that when the app is opened, along with the welcome message, a pre-ticked agreement notice appears on the screen, which states, “Upgrade or create my Airtel Payment Bank wallet using existing Airtel mobile KYC" and vanishes almost instantaneously. As this violates the Aadhaar Act and Regulations, UIDAI has taken action against the company.
