According to reports, the BJP government in Rajasthan is planning to build a nine-foot-high statue of Rani Padmavati in Udaipur. The statue will allegedly depict the Queen performing the ‘jauhar’, or mass self-immolation. Rani Padmavati is revered in this state and features quite often in folklore and literature. The statue is being designed in Jaipur and is expected to be ready in another six months.
