PROUD MOMENT! CHANDRAYAAN 2 ENTERS LUNAR ORBIT; ISRO WAITS FOR SEPT. 7

Indians all over the world are super proud and happy. As Isro has successfully placed Chandrayaan 2 into the lunar orbit on August 20. The lander of Chandrayaan 2, Vikram, is expected to soft land on the moon on September 7. 

As per India Today reports, Isro has achieved a significant milestone after Chandrayaan 2's liquid engine was ignited for around 1738 seconds.

After a successful mission, Isro in a statement said, "the health of the spacecraft is being continuously monitored from the Mission Operations Complex (MOX) at ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) in Bengaluru with support from Indian Deep Space Network (IDSN) antennas at Bylalu, near Bengaluru. All the systems of Chandrayaan 2 are healthy."

"The next lunar-bound orbit manoeuvres is scheduled for Wednesday, August 21, between 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm," the statement further added.

Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation K Sivan later addressed the media stating that the orbit entry of Chandrayaan 2 happened perfectly at 9:30 am on Tuesday. Also, the lunarcraft had an inclination of 90 degrees for landing.

Chandrayaan 2 mission is now moving around the Moon. The ISRO has so far performed five earth-bound orbit raising manoeuvres. It lifted off on July 22, onboard Isro’s most powerful launcher, the 640-tonne rocket Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle-Mark III (GSLV-Mk III), from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre.

Chandrayaan 2 comes 11 years after Chandrayaan-1, which was launched on October 22, 2008, and orbited the moon at a height of 100km from the lunar surface for chemical, mineralogical and photo-geologic mapping. 

Chandrayaan 2 will now be performing 4 more orbit manoeuvres to place the spacecraft into its final orbit before the crucial landing on the lunar surface on September 7.
