The Government has passed a Bill in the Parliament, which criminalizes the practice of instant triple talaq in any form – oral, written and electronic. It is now a cognizable offence and punishable by imprisonment up to three years. The draft of the Bill was prepared by an inter-ministerial group, which included Home Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and his junior in the ministry P P Chaudhary.
