Airports shut and flights cancelled to make way for God

The international airport in Kerala’s capital city Thiruvananthapuram reportedly stops flight operation and reschedules flights twice every year to accommodate the processions of Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple ‘Painkuni’ and ‘Alpassi’ festival. The flight operations would come to a halt for 5 hours on the final day of the 10-day festival when the ritual bath of the procession passes through its runway, reports say. The airport has reportedly issued a NATOM (Notice to Airmen) and flight operations between 4 pm and 9 pm have been rescheduled for this year's procession on Saturday.
