Air hostess jumps to death in Delhi, family claims to be murder

A 39-year-old air hostess died after falling from the fourth floor of her apartment in Delhi on Friday afternoon. According to her family members, the suicide was a result of dowry harassment by her husband and in-laws.

Anissia Batra, daughter of a retired Indian Army Major General, worked for the German airlines, Lufthansa. Batra was married to Mayank Singhvi, a software engineer for two-and-a-half years.

Anissia's family alleges that the death was due to harassment from her in-laws. Anissia's brother reportedly said, "The police considered registering a case of dowry death, but my sister was murdered. She was pushed off the terrace."  However, reportedly, she had sent her husband a message about her decision to take the extreme step, thus ruling out any allegations of murder.
