“I watch OKOK and Nadula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom to de-stress”, Shankar

The audio launch of Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya which stars Santhanam in the lead, accompanied by Power Star Dr. Sreenivasan and newcomer Sethu took place last evening in the premises of Devi Theatre, Chennai. Expectedly, for a movie that promises full-fledged comedy, the audio launch was a laughter filled occasion.

The notable guests of the evening were director Shankar, Simbu, actor-producer Udhayanidhi Stalin and director Rajesh to name a few. The entire team of KLTA was present along with the evening’s hero, music director Thaman. The cast and crew of KLTA were uniformly sporting a bright turquoise t-shirt carrying the title of the film.

As the event commenced the audience was treated to a barrage of light-hearted yet sincere speeches from all the speakers. Simbu approached the podium to reveal that a certain assistant director of ‘Manmadhan’ which introduced Santhanam to films, doubted his casting in the film and requested Simbu to reconsider. But Simbu stood by his decision of including Santhanam in the project. Later, he pointed out, the same assistant director had approached Santhanam to be a part of another film to which the star comedian duly obliged.

Santhanam, during his speech, resounded Simbu’s feelings and expressed his gratefulness towards the young Superstar for giving him the break in films. He thanked Simbu for agreeing to do a cameo in this film and also for going out of the way to take the effort of extending his call sheet for this film just to ensure that he could give his best. It was also revealed that the actor made the guest appearance as a mark of friendship and didn’t charge a penny. Santhanam also thanked director Gautham Menon for participating and cooperating in KLTA. Santhanam continued by expressing the pressures of being a producer. He said that while discussing the project with Rama Narayanan, he had originally envisioned shooting parts of the film overseas, and once they budgeted an estimate he settled to shoot in Kumbakonam.

Talking about the cast, Santhanam said that he was really captivated by the number of posters of Powerstar’s Lathika and Anandha Thollai between Vadapalani and Anna Nagar and instantly decided to make him a part of this film. About his other co-star, Sethu, he said that they had been friends from college and that Sethu had come to his aid on numerous occasions and this would be a way for Santhanam to return the favor to Sethu. As part of his many attempts at pulling Powerstar’s leg, Santhanam said that Powerstar requested for 5000 invitations for himself for the audio launch to which he replied that he had not even expected to see 500 people turn up for the event. The venue of Devi Theatre was chosen for sentimental reasons by Santhanam. He appreciated Thaman’s efforts in churning out 4 excellent songs despite being swarmed with work in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada projects.

It is believed that director Shankar made an appearance at the launch with just half an hour’s notice. The director seemed particularly happy about being a part of the function. He said that during high-stress periods of his schedule he had watched films like OKOK and Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom that offered him great relief from his strenuous schedule of ‘I’. He also said that he was impressed with cameraman Balasubramaniem and was keen to work with him in the future.

The audio was finally released by director Shankar with the first copy being presented to Simbu.
