Asthamanam is directed by Bandi Sarojkumar, whose earlier film Porkkalam with Kishore in the lead was termed as offbeat since he did away with the songs. Asthamanam is also a gritty tale, much along the lines of Porkkalam, vouches the director. It has a whole bunch of debut actors.

Lead roles are played by Rajesh, Munnar Ramesh, Rajesh Kanagasabai, Victoria and Vidya. The movie is produced by Char Productions and is scored by Siddharth Vipin.

Recently, the movie went through the censor scissors and was certified U/A, without any cuts. Director Sarojkumar, however happy with the results, expected a U certified to give it a clean picture image. "We knew that's not possible since that would involve chopping up a few vital scenes and I was not okay with that," he said. Asthamanam is releasing this weekend.
