Following the uninspiring performance of Mani Ratnam’s Kadal at the box-office, many distributors had demanded compensation for the losses borne out of screening Kadal.

Prior to the release of Kadal, Lingusamy’s Thirrupathi Brothers had purchased the Chennai, Madurai and Coimbatore distribution rights of the movie. Lingusamy has said in a recent press release that he would never demand for compensation of Kadal’s losses as the film business is one where profits and losses were all part of the game. He also said that Mani Ratnam was a highly respected director and almost like his own guru who has inspired him on many an occasion with his previous films.
 

He clarified that neither he nor anyone from his office would ever demand for compensation of losses with respect to Kadal as losses or profits in the film business are not in anyone’s control.
