Debut director’s hi-tech approach in filmmaking
June 08, 2006
P C Sekar

Although the Tamil industry has been quite well organized with respect to the technical aspects of filmmaking, it has remained primarily dictated by the personal attitudes and professionalism of the unit members. Hence, there are certain rules to be followed but there are no strict monitoring mechanisms. Now for the first time, a young software engineer turned director P.C. Sekar has adopted the animated workflow mechanism to prepare the flowchart of the entire process of shooting the film.

The details including placement of cameras, panning and other movements of camera besides lighting, cueing for artists etc. were recorded in flow charts and discussed thoroughly. This is a vast improvement over the traditional art board method. Commenting on this new approach, Sekar said that he was happy to finish the work in this manner as it saved him time and money. The project was completed ahead of time as there was no confusion for the unit members.

Incidentally, the film is called Kadhale En Kadhale, and as the title suggests, is based on the theme of love. But love at different stages in one's life and how it matures as time passes, starting from college life. The film is said to have characters of a software engineer played by Navin, a city-based model played by Shrutha and Roma is in the lead with Navin. With four producers for the film, including the seasoned actor Rajendranath, they screened a few song sequences and scenes from the film for a select audience at AVM and thanks to certain technical nuances and styles used in the film the audience was visibly impressed.

Sekar has already won prestigious international awards for documentaries like 'My Imagination' and 'Nee en Nanbane', and therefore, this film is awaited quite eagerly.
