Vijay and Asin are the lead pair of the Diwali
release, Sivakasi. While the film did reasonably
well, there were some objections to the scenes
in which Vijay and comedian Bhaskar had spoken
ill about lawyers. The legal profession stood
up in protest saying that the film’s producer,
A.M. Ratnam, director Perarasu, hero Vijay and
heroine Asin besides comedian Bhaskar had degraded
the dignity of the lawyers and courts. Hence,
several cases were filed against them in various
district courts. However, Vijay and Asin filed
an appeal in the Madras High Court seeking transfer
of all cases to Madras. They stated in their petition
that they would be constantly traveling within
the country and abroad for their shoots. Hence,
it would not be possible for them to appear personally.
They had no intentions to willfully disobey court
orders. They were willing to cooperate, the petition
