Reason behind Kollywood’s preference for Tollywood shoot!
February 15, 2006

Shankar

Look at Shankar’s Sivaji! The film is partly shot in Andhra and partly in Chennai. It’s not Shankar alone who shoots his films in the Telugu country. Many are the producers who shuttle between Hyderabad and Chennai making a film. The question is why do the producers choose Hyderabad to shoot their films. Are there no good locales in Tamil Nadu? Well, the answer is: it is easier to get permission to shoot in Hyderabad than in Chennai. You can get permit for shoot overnight there. But here, in Tamil Nadu, producers are tired of the formalities. They say sometimes it takes a month to get permission. The red-tapism bogs the industry down here. If something is not done immediately, who knows, the entire Tamil movies may be shot in the Telugu regions. The revenue that goes to the Andhra government from Kodambakkam is almost eighty crores per year.
