The man who was Gandhi as Shah Jahan: Aishwarya as Mumtaz
By Behindwoods News Bureau.
December 22, 2007
Ben Kingsley, the man who played Gandhi is planning another big movie based on the rich heritage and history of India. This time, the movie will be based on the enduring and eternal symbol of love and one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Taj Mahal. The Taj has fascinated makers of art for years and still continues to do so.

Speaking about the Taj Mahal, Ben Kingsley said that it is a monument that rose out of centuries of culture and tradition of love, hate, war, passion of a great dynasty. Even while making Gandhi twenty five years back, the idea of making a film about the Taj was on his mind. No, good things take time and that explains why this idea took nearly three decades to conceptualize. Ben Kingsley also said that like Gandhi, even Taj Mahal would be a well researched movie. In fact the research process has been on for a long time now and is in the final stage. It might take around seven months for the rest of the research work to get completed and this phase will be carried out in India.

Giving more details about the movie Ben Kingsley said that he would be playing the role of Shah Jahan while Mumtaz Mahal would be enacted by none other than Aishwarya Rai. He said that Aishwarya Rai is the most glowing symbol of feminine beauty in India. It is only appropriate that she does the role of Mumtaz Mahal. Besides Ben Kingsley and Aishwarya, there will be a number of artistes from across the world playing small and big roles in the movie. Ben Kingsley said that he believed that coming together of creative minds from different parts of the world is an essential element of success.

Let’s hope that he is able to recreate another milestone like Gandhi.
