After the colossal opening of the biggies ‘I am legend’ and ‘Billa’, people will obviously hope for an average weekend but here comes the surprise. As much as 6 movies are releasing this weekend and two movies are bound to get a warm welcome at the ticket counters.
Taare Zameen Par
As anticipated, ‘Billa’ took an earth shattering opening and ‘I am legend’ also took a decent opening, others in the race were unable to cope up with the two giants but their small hope of catching up as weeks pass by is ruined by the release of two biggies in Hindi, three movies in Tamil, and two movies in English.

Now let’s get to our weekly analysis of the weekend new movies right away.

Bee movie

After playing with our funny bone for more than a decade with his hit Sitcom “Seinfeld”, Jerry Seinfeld decided to get animated in the form of a Bee in this weekend’s new release, Bee movie. The movie is filled with extremely creative layout coupled with laugh a minute gags. Some gags may not be understandable by all but if you like Jerry Seinfeld then you will fall in love with this Bee too. There is a circumstance when a cow will ask a mosquito (ok this is an animated movie) whether it’s a lawyer, for which the mosquito will reply, “Ma'am, I was already a bloodsucking parasite. All I needed was a briefcase!” such one-liners have been incorporated all over the storyline. The movie is already a blockbuster worldwide, with more than $ 180 million in the bank and many major territories still to open the movie is all set to break the 250 million barrier. But do remember this is not a Pixar movie, so the animation is not that perfect and the story line has lot of what if’s. But if you want 100% entertainment for the money you spend, then the movie is worth every penny. (Special thanks to Sathyam Cinemas)

Why you should watch it? – Because you like Jerry Seinfeld or you love honey.

Why you shouldn’t? – Because you are totally bugged seeing another animated movie on bugs.

Welcome

Anees Bazmee is back after the Blockbuster movie No Entry that hit the theatres a two years ago. Now he is back with a host of stars including Paresh Rawal, Katrina Kaif, Nana Patekar, Anil Kapoor, Feroze Khan, and the current superstar of Bollywood Akshay Kumar. Akshay has already has three huge hits in 2007; Namaste London, Heyy Babyy, and Bhool Bhulaiya. He is all set to add this movie too to his enviable repertoire. The movie is about a marriage in a don’s family and the crazy situations that follow. The movie is not short of hype or hoopla and is expected to take a thunderous opening at the ticket window. Will this most anticipated comedy of the season live up to the expectations? That is something to wait and watch.

Why you should watch it? – Because you loved No entry and became a huge fan of Anees Bazmee and a bigger fan of Akshay Kumar (but who isn’t?)

Why you shouldn’t? – Because the trailer looks too artificial and very stupid. And doesn’t this look like a Bollywood version of Mickey Blue Eyes?

Kanna

Now for the first and possibly a better release among the rest of the Tamil movies, Kanna stars Prakash raj and Seetha in the lead with a whole bunch of lesser-known artistes. Directed by Aanand, the movie dwells into the relationship issues of parents with their adolescent children. That apart, well, that’s pretty it.

Why you should watch it? – The movie has Prakash Raj in it.

Why you shouldn’t? – Well, the reasons are obvious. You might want to wait until the reviews are out.

Puli Varudhu

After a string of flops and a non-existent career graph, quite contradictory to the promising actor sibling Jeeva, Ramesh is back again with his Puli Varudhu directed by GV Kumar. The movie also has Mallika Kapoor, Karunas, and Manivannan.

Why you should watch it? - If you are a loyal Ramesh fan, if there exist a species of that kind.

Why you shouldn’t? - Have you ever liked Ramesh in any movies?

Pazhaniappa Kalloori

Directed by R. Pavan, a film institute alumni, Pazhaniappa Kalloori stars debutants Pratheep and Arjumaan. You know what to expect from a movie that has a college backdrop.

Why you should watch it? - Exactly!

Why you shouldn’t? - Do you still need a reason?

Behindwoods.com pick of the week – Taarae Zameen Par

This is a biggie as it not only stars one of the celebrated actors in Indian film industry, Aamir khan but Aamir khan has also directed this drama. Aamir has a big fan following in Tamil Nadu, especially Chennai, where his Lagaan and Rang de basanti were great hits. Even Mangal Pandey that was an average grosser all over India was profitable in the first week itself.

The movie on how special autistic kids are, and how they should be brought up should surely get a good opening and thanks to the multiplex audience, it could easily become a profitable venture for all concerned. Movies based on children have usually not been accepted in recent times as one can cite many examples like Makdee, Smile, Blue Umbrella or Raju Chacha but Aamir Khan is quite confident that the movie will get a good reception at the box-office. Let’s just wish that such movies are appreciated and many such movies are attempted.

Why you should watch it? – Aamir Khan is back after capturing millions of hearts with his Rang De Basanti.

Why you shouldn’t? – Because children movies are usually too slow and predictable.
