Rambha clarifies news on suicide attempt
August 27, 2008
After the news of her suicide attempt created a flutter across media circles in Tamil Nadu, Rambha clarified last evening all that had happened and much more. First, answering queries on her supposed suicide attempt, Rambha said that it all began on Thursday which was a day of fasting in honor of Baba, Friday was ‘Varalakshmi Nombu’ and it was

followed on Saturday by Krishna Jayanthi. Being a very religious household, she did not take much solid food for these three days and when she broke the fast with the festival offerings, she ate a bit more than usual, which is understandable given the circumstances. Apparently, the food that she ate had something wrong in it that turned into something more serious than just a stomach upset. She was taken to the hospital where she was diagnosed with food poisoning. Obviously, some over anxious reporter seems to have missed the ‘food’ part of ‘food poisoning’ and flashed the news of a suicide attempt. All’s well that ends well and Rambha was quite happy to see it that way even as she spoke about her life and career after quite a long time. Her career at the moment seems to be on a temporary high after she essayed her first-ever double role in the Malayalam film Kabaddi Kabaddi.

She said that the thoughts of suicide have never crossed her mind and that she had seen many ups and downs in her career to be disturbed by them. Her fortunes have steadily alternated between Tamil and Telugu. Her only regret till date remains that her maiden production venture Three Roses incurred losses that her elder brother had to suffer. But she put that aside and came back strongly. She claimed that there are quite a few people in Kollywood even today who owe her some money. But she is too nice a person to go around making an issue out of it and nor have any of the unions that are supposed to interfere in such matters taken any action. She was a bit disillusioned at that time and changed base to Bhojpuri films where she had successful time acting opposite top stars such as Ravi Kishrn and Ramesh Tiwari. Even here gossip tales did not cease as there was loose talk about her romance with her costars, who were in fact years elder to her. Rambha said that thoughts of romance and marriage had never even crossed her mind, nor had the rumors affected her. Finally when probed about her plans for marriage she cited Aishwarya Rai’s example who got married at 34. She said that she was yet to reach such an age and when the time comes she will surely think about it.

So, a happy ending to a day that went ugly because of some baseless rumors.
