River Ganga named first living entity of India

Uttarakhand High Court has reportedly given ‘first living entity of India’ status to river Ganga thus giving it rights similar to a living person. The move is expected to have a bearing on the cleaning and conservation efforts of the river. The Director, Namami Gange project, and the Chief Secretary and the Advocate General of Uttarakhand have been charged to protect, conserve and preserve the rivers and their tributaries.
