Leetul Gogoi, the Indian Army Major who stirred controversy by using a civilian in Kashmir as a human shield, has been awarded Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card on Tuesday. According to reports, the award was conferred by Army chief General Bipin Rawat. Notably, Gogoi's action had drawn criticism from many for violating human rights at the Geneva Convention.
