He
changed the way the industry looked
at films. Stars are no longer indispensable
for a film to become a hit. You don’t
need fights and fast song and dance
numbers; all you need is a good story
and an actor who fits the role. In
Simbudevan’s case the actor
turned out to be Vadivelu, the comedian
who starred in the former’s
debut venture, Imsai Arasan which
was one of the year’s blockbusters.
The clean family entertainer found acceptance among
all sections of audience. It was a universal hit and
Vadivelu is a much bigger star than earlier. The way
in which the film was shot says a lot about the director’s
skill and sense of good cinema. He is a man to watch
out for in the future.
