Even the director would not have thought
that a light hearted comedy about an
expert teaching a novice the art of
wooing women, would have done much better
than all the biggies of the past year.
Partner is booming in a way that is
hard to believe. According to trade
reports the first fortnight collections
of the movie are the best of the year
and second only to Dhoom2 out of all
the blockbusters of 2006.

This
means that Partner has done better business than
Krish, Don, Fanaa, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna and a
list of other biggies.
The day Partner was released the trade was sure
that this one was going to be a hit, but how big
they never knew. After all Partner had nothing big
except the starcast. The movie relied entirely on
the Govinda-Salman chemistry and the script to pull
off a victory. The movie was good, but it did not
have the firepower to the elements, to put up this
kind of a showing. Some people feel that Partner
has been very lucky. First of all it had a solo
release on the 20th of July. It was expected to
receive its first competitor at the end of the first
week in the form of Cash, which is an action bonanza
and would have taken something away from Partner.
But luckily for Partner, Cash had to back off due
to certain legal issues and Partner got another
free week at the box office. With excellent word
of mouth and no other options, all people queued
up at the theaters screening Partner and it reaped
in 30 crores. Someone once said, ‘Success
is not made, it just happens’. Yes, with a
bit of hard work and luck success does happen. |
