K.Bhagyaraj was an assistant under Bharatiraja. He started out on his own and directed several hit films. He won the reputation of being the best screenplay writer in the industry. His social, romantic and thriller themes were riveting in content and narrative style. He was even projected onto the political stage where however his stint was quite short. Also, with the changing profile of the movie audience his films did not click well. He turned to journalism where he did reasonably well. But the storyteller in him was itching to come out and he made Chokkathangam after almost a decade with Vijaykanth a couple of years ago. The film sank without a trace and left its producer GV in quite a mess. He recently did a television show as well. Encouraged by the good response, he has initiated a new venture with Cheran in the lead. The story discussion for the movie is quietly on in Kanchipuram away from the hustle of Chennai. Let us hope that lady luck smiles on the genial director!
