Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati faces opposition from BJP’s MLA

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s big film Padmavati seems to be facing more opposition for its release. This time around, reports suggest that BJP’s MLA Raj Purohit is voicing his support to Shri Rajput Karni Sena (SRKS) and demanding a ban on the film.

Purohit has stated that the Rajput Yuva Morcha, who are another outfit opposing the film and SRKS would march to Devendra Fadnavis’s (Chief Minister of Maharashtra) house on November 20 and demand a ban on the film.

Talking to Bollywood media about his views on the film, Purohit said, “The film is against the tradition of Rajputs and goes against Indian history. It hurts the sentiments of women. Alauddin Khilji who is shown as the hero, was a cruel person who killed his uncle for the kingship and also killed his sister’s son. He also kidnapped queen Padmavati and fell in love with her. How can he be the hero?

BJP wants Deepika Padukone's Padmavati's release in Gujarat to be pushed

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had their own issues with Thalapathy Vijay's Mersal, as they felt offended by a few dialogues, which stirred up a controversy.

This time around, the pressure from the party is on Sanjay Leela Bhansali's directorial Padmavati, starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor, and Ranveer Singh. The ruling party in Gujarat, reportedly wants the film either to be banned or delayed as the film is releasing around the same time when elections are set to happen.

The film is scheduled for a release on December 1, while the Gujarat legislative assembly elections is scheduled for December 9 to 14.

According to reports, BJP has sought the Election Commission and the Gujarat Election Commissioner to facilitate a pre-release viewing of the movie, for a certain section of Rajput community members, to avoid any kind of commotions or problems, and to prevent unnecessary tension ahead of polls.

It should be noted that the Rajput organizations had previously raised objections to an alleged romantic scene between Padmavati and Khilji. But, the film's director SLB denied the allegation and stated that the movie doesn't have any scene of that sort.

Let us wait for few more days to know what exactly is going to be the plight of Padmavati's release in Gujarat.
