Director Mahendran is the new baddie in K town with his superb performance in the recently released Theri being the talk of the town.

Mahendran shared some of his early days with the audience at the Vikram Prabhu starrer Wagah audio launch. He said, “I am not someone who entered the industry on my whim; I was forced into it. When I was making Mullum Malarum, I did not get the right kind of cinematographer to translate my ideas visually. And it was Kamal who introduced Balu Mahendra to me.

Later, when I had completed the film except for ‘senthazhambu’ song and a scene, I had financial issues and the producer wanted the film to be released without the scene and the song. Kamal talked to the producer on this and he was not budging. So, in the end, it was Kamal who funded the song and the scene and eventually it became the highlight of the film. If, today, I stand before you all as a director, it is also because of Kamal Haasan”.
