The mother of Udhayanidhi, Jiiva, and Sasikumar

Kollywood, when in need of an innocent, friendly mother, need not look beyond Saranya Ponvannan. She has played such roles with aplomb in movies such as Ram, Oru Kal Oru Kannadi, and Em Magan. Her performance as an adoring mother in Thenmerku Paruvakaatru got her a National Award for Best Actress.
 

In a recent interview, she said, “In all my films, nobody on the set has called me madam so far. All of them have fondly called me Amma and this includes the lead actors as well. My roles onscreen and my bonding with them off-screen have given me that prestigious status on the set. Having worked with all the heroes, I can claim to have many sons in this industry!”
 

She said that every lead actor she has worked with - Udhayanidhi, Jiiva, or Sasikumar – consider and treat her as their mother.
