Tamil cinema has never had any restrictions in involving children to play very important roles. Most of the big stars today started as child artists. They were all busy acting in front of the camera when their friends were crying for chocolates.

Ulaganayagan Kamal, Sridevi, Simbu, Meena, Shalini, Shamili, the great Sivaji (theater), Vijay and the list goes on. Most of them got into acting even before they realized they could act. Representation of children in Tamil cinema has pretty much made children really competitive in real life too.

In spite of the over-powering larger than life proportions, our responsible directors have made it a point to highlight the issues children face. Films like My Dear Kuttichathan, Poovizhi Vaasalile, Anjali, Kannathil Muthamittal, Pasanga, Deivathirumagal, Marina, Thanga Meenkal, Haridas, Thalaimuraigal and the recent Poovarasam Pee Pee are a few examples.
