After Australia, needles found in strawberries in New Zealand

After reports of more than 100 cases of tampered fruit across Australia, some varieties of strawberries in New Zealand's Auckland have been withdrawn as a precautinary measure citing customers' peace of mind and grocers also promised full refunds after needles were found in a box of fruit.

The fruits were found to be inserted with needles, which apparently started off as a prank. Countries like Australia and New Zealand have a strict policy against contamination of food.

The Australian government passed legislation last week increasing the penalty for food contamination to 10 to 15 years jail.
