10,000 children killed or maimed worldwide in conflicts: UN report.

The United Nations’ Children and Armed Conflict report has revealed that over 10,000 children across the world were killed or maimed in armed conflicts in 2017. The report on Wednesday revealed that, in 2017, a total of more than 21,000 violations of children's rights took place.


Notably, such violations were numbered at 15,500 in 2016. The report also revealed that 881 verified child casualties in Nigeria were attributed to suicide attacks, including the use of children as human bombs.


While at least 1,036 children were held in Iraqi detention facilities, about 1,221 children were recruited and used as soldiers in South Sudan, the report said.


Further, more than 1,600 children were abducted by al-Shabab extremist group in Somalia. Many of them were recruited in the group, while some others became victims of sexual violence.
