Sterlite says there are no pollution issues, TN disagrees

Following a petition filed by Vedanta, the parent company that owns Sterlite against the closure of the plant in Tuticorin by the Tamil Nadu government, the National Green Tribunal has ordered for a fresh panel to constitute whether the copper smelter plant indeed causes pollution, a claim refuted by the company.

According to TNM, the three-member committee would be headed by a retired judge, and will have one member each from the Central Pollution Control Board, and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

Meanwhile, Sterlite on its part said that even though they have permission to carry out administrative works at the plant, access to the same has been denied.
